Description

Firefighting pumps on board a vessel are designed to extinguish fires pumping seawater through sprinklers to create water jets or water mist via a pressurized ring main, or via hoses connected to nozzles. Firefighting pumps can be driven by electricity or by en engine incase of power failure. Often a jockey pump is fitted which is designed to maintain a set pressure within a fire main. Marine firefighting pumps tend to be manufactured in bronze as they are used to handle seawater.
